Post Highland trail conditions? which tires?
Going to Highland this weekend, and I am wondering which tires to use based on the trail conditions.
Someone told me it was very dry this past weekend. Here are my choices:

1) Panaracer fire fr 2.4's with Kevlar bead (~900g)
Not a very popular tire, but not bad. Nice aggressive, square tire with great cornering knobs. See here: http://www.nsmb.com/gear/pantest_11_04.php.
These are great on just about everything but wet wood, so if it is wet and slippery, I won't use those.

2) WTB timberwolfs 2.7 wire bead stickies (~1600g!).
These have tons of traction, but are boat anchors, and I really do not want to use these because of the weight.

3) Continental diesel 2.5s Kevlar beads (~800g).
Fast, but they have a rounded profile and not as aggressive as I like. I think these are ok in the wet root department.

Hoping to get some advice from people that ride Highland frequently.

Thanks!

Anybody been to highland in the past few days that can comment on the trail conditions?

This is not one of those redundant "which tires are best?" threads, I really want to know the trail conditions, so I can choose from the tires I have.

Let me answer my own question then and close this thread (can you still call it a thread if nobody else joins in?)

I ended up going on Sunday and it was mostly dry, but we had one short rain shower.
I wore my boat anchor WTB timberwolves and they worked great,.... BUT ...

I ended up spending 90% of my time on happy-hour/hellion and these tires were overkill!
I would have been much better off on my light, faster rolling Contis in order to help keep momentum for the big step-ups. The smoothness and hardness of these trails calls for a totally different tire than some of the other old-school trails like threshold.

YO use what ever tires you want. I ride street tires for trail/frreride and have no problem. I think tire selection is really over rated.
